How to clean a book bag?

Is there any way to clean a white book bag?

I don't think it'd be a good idea to put it in the washer so..

any advice or tips?

I always put it in the washer and it works perfectly fine for me. I've seen other people spot wash it or shake the dust and dirt out of it.

My daughter's friend was here last week and her light pink gym bag was really dirty, so I asked her if I could wash it.  I love a challange!  I let it soak in the sink with OxyClean and Tide, then I scrubbed the dirty parts with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.  We were all amazed at how clean it turned out.
