How to clean a kitten's eye?

My cat recently had a litter about two weeks ago. But, out of the two that lived, one of them has both eyes open. The other, however, only has one eye partially open. The other eyes is glued shut with eye boogers and the mom wont`t l**k it clean or leave him alone long enough for me to get to him. If i feed her she leaves for a minute and my friend helped me try to get some gunk out of his eye last night but it didn`t work out like we thought it would. So if you have any idea how we can get his eye cleaned off so he can open it, i would be willing to throw you a parade. Lol

  1. Well my cat has really bad eye problems and we just buy the wipes from walmart or anywhere for kittens eye. You just wipe it off and it works really well.

  2. get a cotton ball with warm water and wipe the eye, gently try and pull the eye open, don't be surprised if you get a bit of puss out of the eye, this is called conjunctivitis, keep the eye clear and keep cleaning with a warm water and cotton balls

  3. You have to get the little fellow. Take him from his mum and clean the eye with a small cotton soaked in chamomile infusion (not hot, but not cold either, room temperature) or just water. You could use eye drops, like Tobrex, twixce a day. But you must also know that sometimes these eye problems are associated with bacteria that caan cause the eye to be destroyed and then need surgery to get it out. I have an on-eyed cat who is like this because her eye was infected, at first it was like your kitten's, then it got much worse and she lostthe eye. i found her when she was beyond treatment. So it is best to ask your vet about what to do.

  4. Use warm water and a cotton ball.  also check with your vet or local pet store about some eye salve to put on it and soften the gunk.  Neosporin would probably be ok, but check 1st, your vet may want to see the kitten before doing anything

  5. What do you mean..."mom won't leave him alone long enough for me to get to him"????  When she leaves to go eat, reach into his box and pick him up and take him into the bathroom and SHUT the door!!

    Then..........

Get some sterile cotton balls, soak them in WARM water, and hold one on the eyelid for a few minutes., Then, when the crusty stuff gets soft, GENTLY stroke across the closed eyelid, from nose to ear (side), wiping the crust AWAY from the eye.

Once you get the crusty stuff off, GENTLY clean the eyelid, til you can't see any more crust.  You may have to do this for a few days, until MOM decides to take care of it, herself.  Just do NOT get any of the crust IN the eye.

Sometimes kittens don't open their eyes as soon as we think they should......10 days is usually the latest that they open, but if your kitten has one partially open, and GUNK on the other one, he may need the warm water "treatment".

If you can't keep the eyes clean, you might consider taking the two kittens to a vet, and have their eyes examined.  The vet can give you some eye ointment for them, and they'll get better quicker.

    Hope this helps......Good luck..........
