Question:

How to clean a laptop keyboard?

I've got an Acer Aspire 5633 and I've had it for 8 months.

Being a perfectionist, the keyboard isn't in its best state and I would love to clean it.

Is there a safe, idiot-proof way to thoroughly clean the keyboard, the touch pad and the stickers around it (the stickers are starting to peel off in the most unattractive way)?

Thanks in advance x*x

  1. I work in an IT department and we use Lysol wipes. They clean and disinfect. The Lysol wipes work great. You can always use compressed air to blow out the dust in between the keys.I use the Lysol wipes at home on my computers and computer equipment all the time.

  2. Well dear, what I do and have done when I had the old tower PC with keyboard and now a brand new laptop is that while it has been switched off, I use an old tooth brush and lightly brush in between the keys and then turn the keyboard upside down and repeat, then use a dab of fairy liquid on the edge of a clean cloth and wipe the keys individually to clean the top of the keys and wipe with a dry cloth, have not yet damaged them so I must be doing something right. Good luck.

  3. I clean mine with a slightly damp microfibre cloth and it works a treat on the screen, keyboard etc!!!

  4. with a cotton bud or you can buy that stuff from computer shops that when you spray it the right way up its just air, but if you spray it upside down its like freezing cold water spray, sorry i can't remember what its called

  5. You use canned air to clean out from under the keys themselves.

You use 91%+ rubbing alcohol and cotton balls/q-tips to clean the surface of the keys.

You use a damp microfiber cloth to clean all other surfaces of your laptop

As to the stickers... just take them off.  I've always hated the blasted things anyway.  It's a laptop not a race car, if they want to advertise with my laptop they can pay me for the space.

  6. The man who fixed my laptop basically told me i should clean the keyboard and he said get white spirits and a paint brush and paint it on then tip it upside down or blow what ever and it should be clean!

I never tried it though so i don't know if it works!

    Sorry!!

    Also make sure it's off!!

    Don't want to get electrocuted!

  8. i just use wet wipes

  9. Hot soapy water, just make sure that you wring out the cloth thoroughly

  10. take the stickers off

put rubbing alcohol on a cloth to clean the touchpad

you can also use the alcohol on the keyboard  or you can remove the keyboard and run it underwater
