How to clean a sofa cushion that was soaked in dog urine?

My dog has peed on my sofa cushion numerous times and now it just reeks. Are there dry cleaners that can clean cushions?

I'd consider cleaning it with some products but the cushion is about 10" thick and I just don' think i could give it a "deep clean".

Any ideas?

  1. You can go to Jo Ann Fabric and get new foam for it. Wash the cover in the washer with frebreeze for the washer. Let it do a soak cycle over night if possible. Then air dry. You could probably use a water proof mattress pad wrapped around the cushion, maybe a crib size one, under the cover..  I would say a garbage bag, but that would puff up with air.

  2. I assume the cushions are removable.  The way to clean them is a four part process.  Stain remove first.  Take shout or stain away treat let dry.  Wash with hose outside from back side first (Ie if peed on from the top turn it over and saturate from bottom so that the urine is washed away from the same direction that it penetrated.  Let it dry completely.  Deoderize take a full box of baking soda dump into garbage bag.  Use a clear bag if possible it just lets you see what you are doing.  Put cushion in bag.  Seal bag completely (tape it closed or tie it) and well treat it like shake and bake you will end up with a white cushion inside the garbage bag.  Leave it for a couple of days.  Take it out of bag, Shake the cushion outside to rid it of the baking soda.  Then vacuum the cushion. It should be clean and odourless.  Put it back and relax!

Yes they do sell a product.  It was develloped by 3M in a red spray can, its a stain treatment can't remember the name,  Its a silicone based product.  Good for carpets and upholstry.

  3. Things You’ll Need:

    Step1

Absorb as much of the urine with the paper towels as you can.

    Step2

Make a mixture of the vinegar, liquid dish soap and eucalyptus oil.

    Step3

Apply generously to stain and let stand for 30-45 minutes.

    Step4

Moisten a towel and wring it out so that it is moist/damp (not dripping wet).

    Step5

Blot the stain and allow for it to dry.

When following step one, try your best to absorb as much of the liquid as possible, this will make the clean up easier and quicker.

  4. Soak the whole thing in vinegar. If that dose help, throw it away.

You might want to buy disposable or washable chucks to leave in your chair for the future, to try and prevent pee getting into the chair again.

  5. Big chain pet stores have urine remover.Best bet is to to remove the foam stuffing and have the fabric dry cleaned.A upholster can redo the foam cushion or you can go to a fabric store and have some cut to order there and do it yourself.Once the stuffing is saturated the only way to get the smell out is to replace it,surface cleaner just mask the smell anyway.Next find out why your pet is urinating on your furniture.Check out Cesar Milan's(the Dog Whisper) web page on Animal Planet.Or type in the Dog Whisper/Cesar Milan The pet must learn that this is a no no.If the dog is old find a cushion for the floor. Any dog can be trained.Once a dog urinates he has marked his spot and will always go to that area to pee. That's how they make claim to their territory.

  6. Throw it away.

Sorry, but you will never get it completely clean again.
