I think my 5 week old had a clogged tear duct. His eye always has eye crusties in it.

  1. Our pediatrician had us massage the tear duct. One of our twins had goopy yellow stuff come out a lot. In the NICU they cultured it twice and it came back negative for infection. They are 4 months now and we see no more of the yellow junk.

  2. you might want to get that checked with a health carer incase there's an infection that needs treated with something medicinal.  In the meantime use cotton balls in warm (lukewarm) water, don't have it dripping wet or anything but rub from the inside/tearduct side outwards once then throw it away - and always use a different cotton ball for each eye to avoid cross contamination.  Don't worry about unblocking the tearduct itself, just gently wipe the eyes until the crust is gone.  But really, I'd get that seen to properly.
