I am wondering about how to clean it effectively and maybe paint/coat it with something that will be more algae resistant?

  1. i agree with tigger!

  2. Your best bet is to use a pump sprayer (hand held) and mix one cup pool chlorine with one gal. of water. spray on wall , (small area to start with) let it stand for a little bit maybe 5 min. then pressure wash off .

Use 20* nozzle  and stay back off the wall, to much pressure might blow the mortar out of the joints. then repeat if necessary. the bleach will clean the stone and after its dry you can seal it with any clear or pigmented color seal.

  3. Power-wash it and scrub it with bleach to get rid of the algae you already have. There are a number of sealants and paints that are made specifically to stop algae growth.

    Good luck!
