Question:

How to clean artwork?

I have a limited edition print that I would like to put up for sale but the print has been exposed to 5 years of cigarette smoke. There are no visible stains but there is definitely a "smoke smell" clinging to the print. Its quite rare and valuable (just found out) so I'm looking for a way to clean it without damaging the print or colour.

  1. its probably on paper, and paper is very sensitive so dont try doing it by yourself, you can damage it or even destroy easily.

  2. If it is all that valuable, don't do it yourself. . . find a professional.

  3. The 'smoke smell' might appeal to some buyers. If the print has not discoloure by the smoke don't do anything yourself.

Call your major Art Gallery and ask for a list of restorers who can possibly aleviate the problem.

Personally, if the print is OK, I would not worry about the smell. Have you tried opening the windows in your home?
