Question:

How to clean faster and better?

I just started a new part time job cleaning for extra money.

If the places are not clean top to bottom real good you get docked money. And you only get paid for a certain set of hours.

Most the time it will be just dirt ground in over time, cigarette smoked walls, hard to reach corners. I basically have to prepare the apartments for people to move in.

Sometimes I have to deal with cleaning up what ever people have left behind. The lady wants anytype of furnature cleaned before leaving the apartment. This ranges from plastics, woods, metal, etc.

Since I want to make the most money possible I would like to know any tips on how I can clean the apartments fairly quickly but do a good job.

Any tips would help but pacifically on the issues I stated above.

(any spam answers will be reported by me [ hopefully by others aswell ]. So no "I do not know" or "I would like to know too", etc. answers please)

Thank you!

  1. I cleaned for a lady one time who couldnt deal with all the chemicals so she had me dust with a damp sponge all the wood furniture. Wow, I found this quicker than using pledge and a rag. And you can use it on all the other surfaces too.  And it didnt damage the wood either.  As far as marks coming off of things and get hard to clean grease off things when 409 doesnt work, use the Mr. Clean eraser sponge.  It really saves alot of time.  I found it works great on the front of the refridgerator in all those crevices like on the white ones where dirt accumulates over the years.

  2. Maybe you should create a checklist of everything that you need to look for and clean.....and everytime you clean a place, go down that checklist and make sure everything has been checked and done.......for example, your checklist may look like this:

    1.  Check all corners for cobwebs and clean

    2.  Clean toilet

    3.  Check dresser drawers and wipe down the outside

    4.  Dust blinds/Spray and clean windows

    5.  Wash the walls down

    etc etc

  3. I really like the first responder's suggestion of a list.  You might take that checklist to the woman you're working for and ask if she has any suggestions as well.

As for how to speed up your cleaning, I'd do all of the cleaning of a certain type altogether.  For example, any dusting, no matter which room it's in.  Any vaccuming, no matter which room.  Any wet cleaning, such as wiping down counters or cleaning the bathroom.  Multipurpose cleaners are also great.  They keep you moving so you don't have to switch cleaners or cleaning devices as often.  Finally, upbeat, motivational music (whatever that is for you) works great for me.  And remember, one hour of housecleaning burns 200 calories.  If you're working hard and moving fast, that's one more glass of wine/hamburger/chocolate bar - whatever motivates you in that regard!

Congratulations on the new job and good luck!
