How to clean filter in washer / dryer?

i have a wd440 hotpoint washer dryer its spewing water out where u put the washing powder when this happened last time the engineer said it was the filter that just needed cleaning. it is no longer under warranty so was wondering how to clean it and if its easy enough for me to do it and how?

Here is a website that has your manual.  You must sign up and then you can download the manual.  I checked and it gives directions how to clean it.  Good luck.

I did not know washing machines had a filter in them, as for cleaning the lint catcher in a dryer, wash with soap and water using a brush.
