  1. you can have a shrimp (or a small group of them) to clean detritus, then a small school (like three or four) of otoclincus dwarf catfish. they are great algae eaters, but don't forget to give them algae wafers/fresh veggies to help supplement their diet. you can't have any other algae eaters/catfish in a 10g-thats too small. each weekend, you should do a small water change, like 1/3 or 1/4. just get a siphon and 2-3g bucket. while the water is going into the bucket thru the siphon, move the siphon mouth around the tank to pick up any extra junk under the gravel (make sure not to vaccuum up the shrimp/otos). you should change the filter pad about every couple of weeks. never empty all of the water out of the aquarium-that might mess up the beneficial bacteria.

  2. use a siphon (vacuum that cleans p**p from the floor of tank), turkey baster to suck up p**p and change some of the water, for algae, get the magnetic cleaners, put one part in the tank the other part out, then drag the outside part around the outside and the inside part will clean the tank in those parts :P

btw, algea cleaners and turtles get way too large for a 10 gallon.
