  1. In my experience, rooms that are hard to clean have too much stuff in them.  The standard plan of attack is to get 3 cardboard boxes (scavenge some from the cardboard recycle area at your local mall) label one keep, one donate, one throw away.

Determine a starting point, some pple work from top to bottom, some like to start at the door and work left to right, or start with certain categories like first clothes, than books(whatever works for you).  Look at every object in your room and decide whether it is something you really use, and how often.  Look at the condition of the object.  Be ruthless and unload anything that is not currently being used or is too worn.  This is especially important with clothes, most pple have way too many clothes.  If something no longer fits you, has tears etc, faded colors, or never really made you feel attractive, let it go.

Once you have determined what gets to stay, you will want to find a place for it to belong in your room.  My rule of thumb is that if I use it everyday, I keep it in my living space, like on the bedside table.  If I use it once a week, I will probably put it in my drawer on my bedside table.  In other words, stuff used weekly is close at hand but out of sight.  For stuff used maybe once a month, I would put it on the top shelf of my closet.  For stuff used less than that, like seasonal decorations, I would store it in the attic/basement, somewhere even more out of the way.   Before putting things away, make sure the shelf/drawer is clean.  Vacuum drawers and wipe them out with a wet rag etc.

Another tip, some things, although used frequently, should not be in the bedroom.  Things that remind you of work for example, try to find another place in the house for them.  The goal is to make your bedroom a serene place to retreat to.

You may have baskets/storage containers in other areas of the house that can be better used in your bedroom.  Try to round some up and use it to organize items on your dresser top, like lotions.

Polish the furniture, mop the floor, dust light fixtures, wipe down walls and light switches, vacuum floors and inside drawers, wipe out the inside of drawers, wash linens and curtains, and dust miniblinds .  Once you do this your room will smell clean and fresh.

Once you have finished purging get the boxes out of the house.  Donate it or throw it away, so you will not be tempted to reclaim the items.  I know garage sales can be moneymakers, but sometimes keeping stuff for that far off garage sale can really clog your life.

Good luck on your room!  :-)

    An added brainstorm:

One of the reasons pple end up piling things is because they do not have a set place where things belong.  When you are busy this type of indecision is aggravation, so it is easy just to pile it up.  Once you have a set place for stuff and a routine, it will get much easier to be tidy.

And really, I think it just boils down to deciding that you want to live organized.

  2. buy a pig, and when your room gets messy get the pig to eat whatever is that makes your room messy and presto a tidy bedroom and a pet pig to hide in your wardroab. lol

  4. Don't let yourself get distracted.

    1. Clear your bed of debris, and then make it.

    2. Sort  your stuff into piles on the bed, and grab a few trash bags.

        a. clothes (dirty/clean separate if possible)

        b. garbage (into the trash bag)

        c. stuff that needs to be put away

        d. stuff that needs to go away somewhere else in the house

        e. junk pile. (stuff that you're saving for whatever reason, or things that you have but doesn't fit into any of the other piles)

    3. Sort the laundry, and start a load.

    4. Put the clean stuff away.

        a. If you need to, reorganize your drawers/closet whatever.

        b. You can sort through your clean clothes and find whatever you don't wear or whatever doesn't fit anymore and put it into a trash bag for good will.

5.Put pile c stuff away where it goes, or find a spot for it.

    6. Put the stuff from pile d away where it belongs in the rest of the house.

    7. Sort through your junk pile. Decide what you want to keep and what you don't want to keep. Some good things to ask yourself when you cant decide wether to keep it, throw away something or to donate it to goodwill are:

Does it work? (if the answer is no, it's garbage)

When did I use this last? (if you haven't used it recently, do you really need it? except for seasonal stuff, like winter clothes; skis, snowshoes, etc)

Will I be likely to use it again? (if no, and it's in good shape donate it.)

Do I have space for it? (if no, get rid of it, or keep it and make a place for it)

    8. Put stuff that you're keeping away.

    9. Tidy up the odds and ends

    10. Vaccum/sweep the floor.

Then before you go to bed, pick up whatever mess you made during the day, and make sure things are in the right place.

It'll take some effort at first, but once you get into the habit, it should be easy

  5. This is something you control.  Are you saying you have no control over yourself?  When you get ready for bed, put the clothes in the corner or basket.  Put a dish you use in the kitchen as soon as you are done, don't set it down.  When you find some dust on the dresser, pick up a dirty piece of laundry if you can't get to an old rag and just wipe it down.  Once you start doing it, then it will become habit.

  6. well, then you'll work w/ what you have.  obviously it's been clean... you just have to keep it that way.  it's not as easy as it sounds if you not used to it... but you'll constantly have to be watching what your doing and picking up this and that very often.  often times ppl are just naturally messy... i even tend to be, so we have to whatch ourselves and pay close attn... to be aware of when we throw this here or there.. .and bust our butt to keep it tidy.   it may seem difficult at first...but you'll catch the hang of it.. to where it comes naturally .  when you can go buy something... it's not absolutly necessary, but it helps... just totes or pull out drawers or shelves...to keep things organized and have "thier place" so you know where to put it in a flash.  but like i said, you can still do it w/ out... just takes practice.

    good luck

  7. Shove it in you're closet....
