How to clean outside AC Unit?

Ok AC is just a few years old, not blowing cold. I THINK it might be because the outside unit is clogged/dirty. This is a Goodman unit. so waht I need to hose off is actually inside of the unit, right? Meaning I need to remove the big outside housing/cover and hose it off inside? Is there just a bunch of small fins inside there like you'd see on the back of a window unit??

  1. Buy a bottle of coil cleaner. Remove the grill. Spray it down with the cleaner, let it sit for 10 minutes. Hose it down well. Put the grill back on.

  2. A/C Teck is probably correct, however, you should still shut it off, clean the coils , and restore power, and let 'er rip. It will probably run just fine.

  3. Shut her down, remove the grill and the fan to the side, and spray water from the inside to the outside for 10 minutes, put the grill and fan back in place, and turn the power back on.

  4. You do need to clean the heat exchanger ( condenser) coil, but do not just spray water on it, you'll just drive the crudd into the fins.  You need to vacuum the crudd off the surface or blow it out from the inside.  This almost always involves taking off a grating.

  5. Just hose it with slow water.  Don't bend the fins.  How many BTUs.  Check if  the vent is leaking.

  6. The way to tell if the coil is dirty is to turn on the unit and feel the 3/8 copper line coming out of the condenser, the temp should be 85-90 degrees. next check the temp difference inside the house measure the room temp and then go to the vent blowing air and check that temp it should be around18 degrees different room temp 80 degrees vent temp 62 degrees. if the temp is say 10 degrees td its low on gas.

the outside should blow warm air if not the comp might not be running goodman are known for the run capacitor in the condenser going bad. shut of the power to the equipment take of cover and look at the top of the cap it should be flat normal if it is rounded on top the cap is blown and needs to be replaced! you need to short the cap term ails with a s***w driver first they can hold a charge even with power is off.
