Question:

How to clean stained toilet

by  |  earlier

I have just moved into a new place. The toilet is absolutely gross: very heavily stained.

I have spent hours with a toilet brush but doesn't shift it. Any ideas on how to get the stains out..

  1. Washing soda (soda crystals) a strong solution will soften it.

Soda Crystals work best in hot water so what to do is fill a bucket with a couple of kettles of boiling water and then throw it down the pan and then add a whole pack (or 2) of soda crystals in and just leave them overnight. Prevent anyone using the toilet whilst you are doing this by whatever means you can! In the morning use the toilet brush to scrub the solution around before flushing.

If really really bad you may need to do a second time but this is far less toxic way to do a dirty job.

  2. two options

first get a limescale remover toilet tablet and leave it over night.

second - a can of full sugar coke cola the real proper stuff.  i know its hard to believe but i was told this and didnt believe it til i tried it.  its cheap and affective - it really does work - but you have to leave it for about 12hours then the toilet is really clean.  it gets rid of the brown and limescale.  it doesnt affect the toilet just the dirt :)

  3. Limescale remover and a bit of elbow grease.

Mine was the same when i moved into this place.I renewed the toilet.

My thoughts are, if people can allow it to be like that, they were mingers and i couldn't use the toilet after a minger.

  4. I had this problem once when I moved into a new house. I had happened to call a plumber for another problem and while he was there I asked him about that. He said the best way to clean it is muratic acid. He said you can't just go out and buy it because it is so strong so he got it for me. He poured some in the bowl and more in the back of the toilet so it would go through when it flushed. He also poured some down that long tube in the back where the water flows through. The toilet turned snow white!

  5. try putting two litres of coke in it and leave over night

or a lemon juice and borax paste

    or white vinegar

    or bleach

or go to the hardware and buy some chemicals they have the good stuff there

  6. bleach and comet let it sit for a while ,

  7. Try putting a strong solution of Soda Crystals down and leave overnight. If that doesnt work another old fashioned method is White Vinegar which also cleans limescale from round the bowl.

You may need to have more that one go if the pan is very badly stained.

Soda Crystals are also good for keeping sinks and toilet pans smelling nice.

I have a septic tank and try to only use natural products and find they all work for cleaning loads of things in the kitchen, bathroom and laundry.

You can buy Soda, Crystals, White Vinegar and Borax in most supermarkets.

  8. Cillit BANG!! And the dirt is gone. Pretty disgusting really.

  9. Use a pumice stone.  They sell them in the cleaning section next to the toilet cleaners.  That scale won't come off easily any other way.  The stone won't hurt the porcelin, but it will grind that stuff right off quick.  You can use chemical cleaners, but that will take forever and they don't work like a stone.

  10. Bleach it.

  11. I used a pumice stone and scrubbed some pretty ugly stains off our old toilet after we had tried everything we could think of. Took some scrubbing but it did work!

  12. you should buy the 'thick bleach' let it sit for 20 mins then brush and flush, bleach will do the trick in a second it cleans/stains everything bright white.  Make sure u get the thick bleach it better then the normal running watery bleach. :)

  13. Get a Brillo pad that has soap in it.  That is the same thing as steel wool, but any store will have Brillo.  It will definitely get it off.

  14. VINEGAR Kills Lime, mold and dirt.

The vinegar smell goes away in a day or less.

I have heard a pumice stone works wonders and sometimes the only thing that works for hard water stains that are d**n near impossible to get off

( put on some gloves first)

  15. I am with the bleach.  Pour it in and let it sit for a while, I use it on my sinks too.

  16. Go to Lowes, or some hardware store and buy Muratic acid. Be careful

this is ACID.... Pour it in the toilet. I'm not sure how much, it might say on the bottle. Seems like maybe 1/2 the bottle..The people there are very helpful, just ask questions. DO NOT mix anything else with it. Make sure there is lots of ventilation. It shouldn't take to long...and you should be squeaky clean...If I remember right it puts off a smoke, steam thingy.

READ THE DIRECTIONS....Don't breath the fumes...

  17. Hi.. put a packet of soda crystals in the bowl over night.. then its a question of scrubbing with steel pan scrubber

  18. Honestly, you should ask the manager to replace it. You should not have to be in the bathroom scrubbing. Especially, if you had not contributed to the stain in the first place. That is only fair. I know if they were to move into a new place, they would want the same thing. Sometimes you have to step out of your comfort zone to do what is morally right.

  19. Throw a few tablets of denture cleaner in there overnight and see if that takes off some of the layers of grime.

  20. Turn off the water to the toilet and flush it to remove most of the water from the bowl. You can start by using Tilex or CLR, and letting it soak for about a half hour to loosen the stains. Turn the water back on and flush the toilet to clear the chemicals out. Turn the water off and flush again. Put on rubber gloves. Now use a green scrubby pad and cleanser (Ajax or Comet) to scrub out the bowl. Make sure to get under the rim. Turn the water back on and flush to rinse it. Wipe off excess cleanser residue with a damp cloth.

  21. Scrubbing brush/scourer, soap and some elbow grease.

You could use rubber gloves if you're that bothered.  I wouldn't. Just get in there and clean it up and make it good!

  22. ewww now that's just sick!!!!!

    blegh!!!

  23. Bleach
