How to clean tar from a sailboat?

I got tar on the top of my sailboat.It is a 25' O'day. I am wondering if there are any good products or home made remedies made for cleaning the tar

  1. Dupont #7 Tar Remover


  2. Lighter fluid and paper towels. Then put a coat of wax on and good as new.  Put the paper in the barbeque and have hamburgers.

Ordinary paint thinner will work best.  There are other products, but if you take your time paint thinner will do the least damage to anything non-fiberglass, and will evaporate completely soon after your done.  Hardware stores all carry it for $7.00 a quart, which should be plenty.  Walmart and Home Depot both carry it.  Good luck!

  4. WD40 works, and You probably have some.

  5. Kerosene will work very well, and is not nearly as flammable as paint thinner or lighter fluid (which I do not recommend using). You can also use ordinary diesel fuel, which is another form of kerosene. You can put it in a plastic container, and just get a cup or so of it.

  6. the safest thing to use is denatured alochol and some rags keep changing the rags nothing is safe as this  . Tinners will raise the paint etc i am certain of this
