How to clean up computer?

My computer has been doing some weird things lately. I have run a scan with McAfee and it does not detect anything except onestep Adware, which cannot be removed and has nested itself in my D recovery partition.. Some of the weird things are internet browsers crashing, and overall slow performance. My 224 GB hard drive is about half full though. I ran sfc /scannow and after the scan it prompted me to insert the XP disk, which I do not have because Best Buy did not give it to me. What it the best malware detection program, if there is one? Then what do I do about removing it? If I install vista, will it delete the adware that I have and any other possibly malicious programs? Thanks for the help.

  1. you could try windows defender, comes installed on vista but i'm sure you can d/l it from the microsoft site for XP then run a scan, if that dont work go to big fix.com, it's free software that detects problems with you pc and auto corrects them.. malware and spyware included. hope it helps

  2. Try SpyBot.  It's free!  -link below-

Then use Ccleaner once it's clean to help optimize your computer.
