How to clean washable suede?

I have small couch that's beige and I'm assuming it's washable suede. It has a few dark spots on it. How do I clean it?

a non colored  sponge warm water and liquid ivory soap. air dry.

If it truly is washable, check the labels in the upholstery cleaner (Woolite-type stuff) section of the store & look for one that says it works on suede.  follow the directions.  I'm a little worried you're assuming it's washable - is there any way you can check to be certain before possibly ruining it?  If it isn't washable, you'll have to call someone to come clean it professionally.
