  1. I'm not sure about fun,but here is the best way: Start with the floor.  No, start by putting on your favorite dance music.

Pick up all the clothing on the floor. This includes the floor in your closet. Make two piles. Put those things you've worn in the last 6 months in the first pile, everything else in the other. Don't cheat. Take the first pile to where ever laundry is done.  Put the other pile in a garbage bag to take to the Salvation Army later, after you wash the stuff in it.

Hey, its on the floor for a reason if you aren''t wearing it. It either doesn't fit any more, its out of style or you no longer like the way it looks on you. Get rid of it.

If your curtains are washable, take them down to wash. If you have blinds, wipe them with a damp cloth to remove all dust. If you have drapes, we'll get to them later.

Now pick up big stuff, shoes, hardcover books, treasures you love but not enough to put away. Make sure you get under the bed. Put the shoes in the hallway for now, everything you absolutely can't part with on the bed, the rest of it in a box and set it aside. Hang up the hangers on your closet floor.

This should leave paper, old shoe boxes, magazines, general litter. Here is the rule: YOU CAN LOOK BUT YOU CANNOT READ. Glance at each paper to make sure it isn't a sales receipt you might need, a warranty or a note from the person you love most this week. Those things you put on the bed. Everything else goes, the magazines, the homework you forgot to turn in, everything. Now sweep the floor, just to get the bits and pieces up. Sweep out your closet floor. Wipe it out with a damp rag. Put your shoes away.

On to your dresser, bookcases, TV, computer table, any furniture. Add clothing to the laundry or the bag. Put away jewelery and makeup. Toss used paper, anything that has been broken that you put aside to fix 'someday.' Put your treasures that are on the bed away. Strip the bed. Take everything to the laundry area.

If you have a bookcase, put books back in order. Now dust everything. Wipe furniture with a damp clean cloth, rinse often. Let it dry, apply furniture polish if you wish.  Spray Windex on glass and wipe it with a clean cloth or paper towels, even the windows.  If possible open the windows, both to let in fresh air and to clean inside them, between the window and the screen.

Wash your sheets, bed clothes, curtains, dry them. Eat a snack and rest for a little while until they finish drying.  Go through the box of stuff you set aside, return everything that isn't yours, pack the rest away to store or add to your Salvation Army bag. Do not invite a friend over or start a movie on TV.  As soon as the dryer dings, it is back to work. Rehang curtains, if that's what you have. Make the bed.

Vacuum the drapes if that's what you have.   If you have pet hairs on the drapes, wrap your hand in packing tape, sticky side out and brush the drapes until the hair is on the tape. You might have to do this several times.

Now vacuum the floor or carpet. Wash the floor with warm water and about 1 cup of vinegar if it is washable. If it is wood, use a wooden floor cleaner or just wipe it with a slightly damp (not wet) mop.  If it is carpet, you can use a product called Resolve to remove most spots.

Finally, look around, give yourself a hug for a job well-done. You should probably also turn down the music. :-D

  2. I LISTEN TO MUSIC AND DANCE AROUND IT RELAXS ME TO CLEANESPECIALLY IF I HAD A BAD DAY!!!!I CHANGE MY FURNITURE AROUND ALOT TOO THATS ALWAYS FUN!

  3. i put on music and re-arrange while cleaning. that way i get a change out of it.

or you could bag up old stuff you don't want anymore.

it makes you feel like your taking the easy way out i guess?

(how fun can cleaning really get though?)

  4. Here's what I told Hanzii too:

(I know its unconventional, but it works.)

    Turn the music on.

Set a timer for 10 minutes. Focus on JUST ONE THING for those 10 minutes. When the timer goes off, re-set it and move on to something else. Even if you're not done with what you were working on. You can always go back to it on another 10-minute round.

Do this for 3 sets of 10 minutes.

Then set the timer for 10 minutes again. That fourth set of 10 minutes is for you to TAKE A BREAK.

Once the timer goes off, your break is over. Get back to work for 10 minutes per area.

This 10-minute plan keeps you from getting burned out on any one thing. Plus you know you'll get a break soon.

Also, after the room is clean - every day set a timer for 15 minutes to pick up your room. Promise yourself that at the end of 15 minutes you can stop.

You don't have to get it clean in those 15 minutes. But if you work on it for 15 minutes a day, it will never get so bad that you have to do this big project cleaning again.

  5. out music on or tv and  take a break every 10 min
