  1. Weevils are some of the toughest bugs on the planet. I don't have experience with vine weevils but I do with hollyhock weevils and the only thing that kills them is to use a systemic insecticide to make the entire plant toxic! So, unless you either pick them all off by hand, or plant something they find even more attractive to lure them away, then you may be stuck with them. I am not sure if B.t. (Bacillus thuringiensis) of one type or another would kill weevils.

  2. The only way that I've killed them is with Imidacloprid, or Thiacloprid, which are systemic insecticides that are taken into the plant and kills them when they eat some of it.  A single dose can last for months, meaning you get season long protection.

Bayer produce this in a range of their products,  and this should be readily available from nurseries or online.   Home Depot USA did sell an annual treatment that I've used for trees and shrubs, otherwise a soil drench product that is good too, available from Wilkinsons in the UK, which is usually better value than other stores/nurseries.  Bayer Garden Provado Vine Weevil Killer is a UK version of the product.  http://www.bayergarden.co.uk/products/pr...

Hope this helps.  Good luck!  Rob
