Question:

How to complain to Wal-Mart, not at store level?

Wal-Mart is playing the 'green game' and being a poor sport: Wal-Mart sells these reusable shopping bags for $1, emblazoned with Paper? Plastic? Neither. Wal-mart.(or something to that effect). Anyway, I go in and buy my month's worth of groceries (over $300).... and they will not bag my groceries unless they go into the plastic bags! The cashier told me that is what they had been instructed to do - bag in the plastic bags then allow the customer to bag into their own bags. I refused the plastic bags so I had to bag my own groceries. How do I complain on a corporate level?

  1. Ask the store manager for the address, e-mail or phone # of corporate headquarters.  Then write a letter and explain how the actions of the cashiers (at least in your particular store) oppose their claim of "going green".  Insist that  customers should feel free to make their own choice, and that you would really like to continue to shop at Wal-Mart.  Because of that desire, you would really appreciate this problem being addressed.

I've heard that if you "sandwich" complaints - compliment on the top, gripe in the middle, compliment on the bottom (closing of your letter) that it is better received.

I've recently done the above with another major company, and actually got back an apology letter and a gift card!

Be sure to ask for a return reply.

I'm glad you want to see this resolved!

As the following web page says:

"We cannot all do everything.  But we can all do SOMETHING to make a safer, saner planet for ourselves and our children."

    Hope this helps!

  2. i don't know if there's anything you can do. complaining probably won't have any effect. if you really do care about the enviroment, you can continue using the shopping bag and bag your groceries.

but try talking to different cashiers. mabye they have different views about these bags, and some will bag your groceries and others won't!

  3. 1-800-wal-mart is the customer complain line
