Question:

How to conceal a missing chunk of arab mane?

My horse is missing a good chunk of mane(about six inches long) about halfway down his neck. He's an arab, so he has a long mane. I've tried putting it in a tight running braid, and the end result is lovely, except he's a flailer and it comes out within a few minutes. I'm starting to show this horse, and I need to figure out how to conceal it-- help?

  1. Put some extensions in the piece closer to his head, that way when you do the tight running braid, you will have enough to cover and go to the next piece. Also use some product so that it stays in place longer.  The other thing is to really get it wet and then braid then use a little product to get it to stay.

From the photo it doesn't look like there is enough hair to put extensions on the missing mane.

    Good Luck!

  2. LOL i have one with that issue right now (a Paint), but his is grown out more...Kind of a Mohawk in the same area as your horse.  I needed to get pictures to send to get his registration for APHA, trying to get a picture without that part showing wasn't easy.  LOL Looks like a braid wont stay because the hair is to short there still.

  3. try shaving his mane so that it looks kind of like layers then it will look totally normal.  trust me i tried it with my Arab. mare it worked like a charm.

  4. bugger.

  5. you can try extensions, or band the main way at the top right before a show, like draft horses do. if you put some moisturiver in it, that will help it grow long enough to where you can braid small braids and it will look normal, but it might not grow back soon enough to when you're going to show. also, when you show him, you could do long running braid right before the show, it might stay in. 1 other thing you could do, is tie ribbons in it {through the whole thing} to make it look more full,, i don't show arabs, so i don't know what specifications you need on showing.

sorry i couldn't help more, but those are all  of my ideas.

  6. I don't think it looks that bad honestly...

  7. Oooooo.... that's hard. Is your braid tight enough? Usually they stay in pretty well. I don't know if you use any product when you braid, but that might help the hair stick. I guess when it grows out shorter, you could pull it. I doubt they have mane extensions for a reasonable price.

    Hope you find a solution!

  8. Extensions. if you can find someone in your area who can do wax extensions on his mane instead of the normal braid in extensions ( i think his mane will be to short for that ) then it might save you.

  9. im not an arab shower but i have seen pics where they shave the mane to like half way down its neck, to give more neck showing or something, you could try that
