  1. Soak it in some salty water and dry naturally will do the trick

  2. Well, I'll be! There is a way. Take a look at this web page: http://planetgreen.discovery.com/home-ga... Apparently, Readers' Digest says to soak a new straw broom in salt water and then let it dry.

  3. I have never heard of conditioning a straw broom, but as they are cheap anyway, it doesn't really matter if it lasts 2 - 3 years.

I have found that my grandmothers broom did have a definate bend in the straw from years of using it, I'm uncertain as to whether it was because she always used it in one direction, or if it was because it was left sitting on the floor.

I'd hang it so the straw was left free to dangle down.

  4. My mother always soaked a new broom in salt water. Then when it's in storage either hang it or rest it against the wall with the handle down so the straw is not sitting on the floor.
