What is a clinical trial and how is it conducted? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

  1. It depends on what you are testing.

    For medication, a clinical trial is a trial on living persons. After all safety tests have been conducted and trials on animals, it remains to test the medication on human beings (volunteers), under controlled situations and a record of results being made. Sometimes to ascertain the actual effect of the medication double blind tests are also made where a percentage of the volunteers is given the medication and another percentage is given a placebo Those are clinical trials as opposed to other trials (safety, purity etc.) done at lab level.

    You may have clinical trials of alternative methods.

    In Denmark f. ex. clinical trials have been made on volunteer cancer patients to see who of the patients treated with which method got the best results.
