How to confront neighbors smells permeating my apt?

the neighbor below mine cooks quite often and the cooking smells and their whole apt smell come up to my apt. they are cooking a lot of curries and the smells come straight into my apt above. this doesnt happen when they close the back windows.. which is the only good part of my day.

i have already gone down there to ask them to close their back windows which they partially close now. even though they arent cooking all of the time, the smell is so strong that when they open the door, a rush of hot air and smell come out like a hurricane.

what do i do... how can i confront them again.. and would there be city ordinances against this? please help

Get one of those new automatic air sprays that sprays "Oust" continuously all day.  Get the fresh breeze or woodsy scent.
