Question:

How to connect Dreamweaver to godaddy.com

I am using Dreamweaver CS3 and trying to figure out how to FTP upload to godaddy.com. I've done this before with other places, though the big thing that is different is that the guy I'm doing this for only bought the hosting service from godaddy.com and wants to keep his domain name with omnis.com

Should I just try to convince the guy to transfer over his domain name or hosting service or is there a different way to do this? What should I put in the ftp host box?

  1. I would assume, if he's set up the DNS correctly, that his domain name should resolve to the godaddy.com server location where his site is hosted.  It might make it easier to do transfer it, but there's really no reason to if it's set up correctly.

In any case, just use the domain name instead of the IP address to transfer.  Again, check the DNS settings to make sure they are going to resolve correctly.  If you have to make changes, be aware that it takes a few hours for changes to propagate.
