How to connect PS3 to Samsung HT-X40 for surrond sound?

Ok i have the xtreme Hd hdmi switcher and I have my directv dvr,ps3, and my home theatre system connected to it. I only have the theatre system to use the surround sound but I have no clue how to get my PS3 to use the surround sound.

  1. Does your tv have an HDMI port? This is how I hooked mine up. My PS3 goes to my HDTV via the HDMI cable. My TV then is hooked up to surround sound via the RCA out on the back of the TV to the RCA in on the back of the surround sound receiver. As long as my tv is on it will automatically feed the PS3 signal to the surround sound.


  2. under video settings you have hdmi selected on your ps3

    well you go under audio setting and either select optical, if you have an optical cable to hook up to your surround sound, or you can select composite, or analog, I don't remember what is says exactly, but then use the ps3 to rca cables, the red yellow and white one that came with the ps3 to plug into an rca port on your surround sound.  In the audio settings there also may be a setting to turn on 5.1 or not I don't remember, I set mine up a couple months ago.
