I have a new Windows Vista laptop and a Xbox 360, the only internet connection I have is the mobile internet connection from Orange (the USB dongle thing) now I want to share that connection with my Xbox without a router/hub/switch, can I plug in my laptop straight into my xbox and get it online?

  1. there is a way to share internet that way but its slow and probably going to be rather unstable and alot of work while a router you just plug in

  2. You can do it by:

Set a fixed IP address on your Xbox 360

On the PC, set a fixed IP address IN THE SAME RANGE on the network connection that you'll use to connect to the Xbox 360. (This will be the physical ethernet or RJ45 port on your laptop.

Get a cat5e or cat6e ethernet CROSSOVER cable and plug the two together.

Allow Internet Connection Sharing on your Laptop and share the Orange USB wireless.

And,boy, that's going to cost you a lot of money...

I would strongly advise you to check if there is a restrictive fair usage policy on the Orange Broadband.
