So right now, I have my modem connected to the wireless router and my PC connected to the router via an ethernet cable. I just wanna know how to connect my xbox 360 to my wireless router using my ethernet because it always fails the "network adapter" part of the connection test. Thanks!!!

  1. If you did not already buy the xbox wireless adapter, I suggest not going wireless.  There is an alternative to wireless called powerline.  Let me explain why you should go powerline instead of wireless.

First is security.  Most people have no trouble getting their wireless network working.  That's because they did not setup security.  It's one of those things where it is not hard to setup security once you do it successfully once, but if you go around to different neighborhoods with your laptop, it is amazing at how many people's network you can break into.  Powerline has some security issues, but data from powerline terminates at the transformer.  If you are in an apartment, it is a concern.  If you install the included software, it will setup a secure connection for you.  Even if you don't setup security, only your immediate neighbors will be a threat to your network.  There's a good chance they know nothing about networking anyway.  And who is going to actually go out and tap your electrical wires?  You have a better chance of your house being robbed.

The second issue with wireless is interference.  Wireless networks can be interfered with microwave ovens, wireless phones, and neighbor's wireless.  This can be solved by changing your wireless to a different channel, but novice computer users don't know how to do that.

The third issue with wireless is signal strength.  If you are one room away from your wireless access point, your signal really starts to weaken due to walls.  If you live in a pretty big house with your wirless router in the basement on the east side of the house and a wireless computer 2 floors up on the west side, that signal, if any, will really be weak.  Powerline does not have issues with signals being too weak.

The main thing powerline does not let you do is roam freely.  Powerline is good for stationary devices like desktops and gaming consoles.

  2. You need to purchase A network adaptor to connect to the Internet with, these cost about £60/$125 or something...

Yet another thing you need to buy for the 360 to get it to work.

  3. yup, you need to buy a network adapter...On ebay they are not that expensive...

If your wireless signal isn't very strong or if your X-box is far away from it, then your online play might be slow.

What I did was buy a really long cable for $20. It was cheaper and faster.
