I have an LCD tv. My dvd player (home theater system) is already attached to it. So whenever I watch a vcd/dvd, i get the sound from the home theater speakers. But how can I get the sound of my tv channels (coming from my set top box) to come from my home theater system. Is there any way to connect the set top box to the dvd player.?

  1. While you are considering how you will set up your home theater system you might consider learning about Ultralink Cables as a type of cable to use either for this installation or a future home theater installation.  The ultralink cable is a premium cable designed for audio / video applications.

  2. At the back of your LCD tv are six holes, 2white, 2red, 2yellow. The top ones are input nad the bottom ones are output. Your dvd player and your set top box are output boxes and your LCD screen is an input box. Seeing as the dvd player and the set top box are both input they cannot go together. BUT, if you wher to plug in the yellow cord from the set top box and the red and white from the home theatre system into the LCD screen you would get the picture from the set top box and the sound from the theatre system. Sadly i dont think the home theatre system does TV channels, so you will have to use the sound from the set top box. =)

  3. Look for any audio out jacks on the box.  Unless the box is for High Definition, you will not be getting surround sound, but it should have RED/WHITE composite jacks for AUDIO OUT.  Running your red/white cables from the audio out to an input on your receiver should get you stereo.

If you have the "Home theater in a box" system with your Receiver/DVD player in a single unit, you are probably out of luck as these devices don't have the connectivity that a custom built system would.
