How to connect a loptop to a TV screen?

How do I connect a Laptop to a TV screen? I once, years ago, connected a Desktop to my TV. But, now I can't remember what the heck I did to do it. The Loptop in Question has an S-video jack on it. As far as I can remember the S-video is just video not sound? Or am I wrong? If it the S-video doesnt have sound, then what would I need to do to get the sound to transfer from the PC to the TV. I also have the regular monitor VGA input/output plugs on the laptop. I dont really particualrly need the sound, but it would be nice.

You need to make sure that the S-video jack on your laptop is the same type as the one on your TV.  See here: http://www.svideo.com/7pinxclaim.html

In this website (the above link), you will notice at the top of the page that there are two types of S-video out jacks and/or plugs (cables). One is a 4-pin S-video out jack and the other is 7-pin S-video out jack.

After checking, you need to see if you have an S-video out cable which can be connected to both your laptop and TV.

Concerning your question about the S-video, you are right. S-video is just for video and not for sound.

How to get sound? You need a cable with one white and one red end, and the other end should be plugged into your speaker jack on your laptop. This is also known as an audio cable. See picture of my own audio cable here:

S-video out cable is not cheap. However, audio cable is affordable and much cheaper compared to the S-video out cable.
