How to connect camcorder to pc?

Question

i have a canon zr40 and i want to connect it to my computer. It uses minidv cartridges. I have a dv cable but i dont know how to plug it in my computer,because it has no slot that looks the same. The camcorder does have the slot but the computer dowsnt,so how do i transfer my vidio from my camorder to my pc?

a miniDV vcam must be iLink / FIREWIRE400**-connected to pc to upload video thru video capture or video editing* software while vcam is ON PLAYBACK.  Note: DV or Firewire port of vcam is 4pin. Before cable purchase** (Vcam/4pin=>firewireCABLE=>PC (4/ 6pin?), check pc for DV or firewire port, whether 4 or 6 pin. If none, install firewire card: pci for pc or pcmcia for laptop.
