How to connect laptop to pc via ethernet cable...HELP!?

ok so basically ive gotta xp laptop that i want to connect to my pc which has gotta ethernet adpater SOLEY TO TRANSFER FILES - NOT FOR SHARING AN INTERNET CONNECTION

i want to use an ethernet cable fore a direct connection. the problem is that i cant seem to set anything up..

help

  1. Buy a Crossover cable and connect ethernet nic to ethernet nic. You will have to set up a workgroup and share the drives to be able to browse the other computer.

    It should work.

    You could use Files and settings transfer wiz in XP but that can get kind of involved.


  2. If you are connecting the laptop directly to another PC you will need what is called a crossover ethernet cable. Once you ahve them connected you will need to set the gateway of each PC to the IP address of the other PC. For more information do a google search on "Connecting PC's with a crossover cable"
