ok my modem has 2 ports. a ethernet and a usb port. Every time i connect my computer to the usb port and my ps3 to the etherrnet cable. Either 1 signal connects to each (the computer connects but the doesnt ps3 connect and vise versa). How do i make it so that the ps3 and the computer can both connect at the same time to 1 modem?

  1. its trial and error as long you have a router you will figure it out

  2. Yeah those DSL modems only work one way, either USB or Ethernet, not both.

You need a router/switch to connect between the modem and your two computers.  ...all using ethernet, forget about using USB.

Normally, there are 5 ports on a router/switch: 4 LAN ports (this is where you plug in your computer and PS3) and one WAN port (this is where you plug in the DSL modem.)

  3. gotta buy a router. thats what there for exactly. splitting connection throughout the same modem.
