How to connect my dvd player to samsung hdtv?

I have a 22 inch Samsung HDTV that I recently purchased from Costco. I am trying to connect my old dvd player which has component cable connection to the HDTV. I bought a RCA component cable from Walmart and hooked up the dvd player to the HDTV and receives no "signal" detection between the television. I am sure that the cable connection is right and I am puzzled with why there's no connection between the dvd player and the HDTV. My dvd player is a Spectral branded player dated back in 2004. How to hook up dvd player to the HDTV?

yes  i had the same problem your dvd player is analogue not digital therefore you will have to press the source button on remote and change it to analogue but not analogue TV

and it can only read the signal from the selected device Via the Imput mode selected in your case i would select Video
