  1. If you own a wireless router you can enable the wireless feature to access the net otherwise your other option is buying ethernet cable to make it work...

  2. Well first of all what kind of software program do u have, and what kind of  internet do u have ? If u have windows, there is a connection wizard in the control panel that will help u get started to connecting ur laptop onto the network. If you have DSL or Cable, you should have a USB cable to support your modem which would more than likely be an external one provided by ur internet provider.

  3. It would help if you specified what your internet connection is.

I use DSL, plugging an ethernet cable from my PC's NIC card into a Westell modem.  A few years back, my desktop died and I had to rely on a then battered Toshiba Satellite.  I was ure it wouldn't work right, but turns out, all I had to do was plug the cable into the Sat's ethernet jack, create a new connection in Internet Connections (Start-->Settings-->internet connections) matching the one on my DT and I was set.  I was able to do this on an 8 year old Apple Powerbook as well, but couldn;t surf well due to antiquated browsers.
