How to connect the Canon HV20 to PC?

Hello,

Just got this new camera. I would like to upload a small film i shot but my computer (Vista Ultimate) doesn't seem to recognize my camera. I plugged it via the supplied USB cable ... no responce. Even the installed CD didn't help.

I checked the manual which didnt say much but i still tried, without success....

what do i need to connect this thing to my PC?

  1. You need to use DV Port on camcorder for downloading film to PC. USB Port is for photo picture downloading.

    If you use DV Port then you need firewire cable and firewire card in your computer.

    People had success with Windows XP Pro. I don't know about Vista. People are saying Vista is full of problem. Drivers being one.

    Use window movie maker which comes with window.

    Wait littlebit for camcorder to be dectect, should appear near the time clock.

  2. sorry if I'm incorrect about what format your camcorder records in, be it mini-dv or HDD, but you'll need a firewire cable if it records onto any kind of digital video tape. if it records onto a memory card of hard disk, then I don't know why your USB wouldn't be working. good luck!

  3. upgrade the MAcon HV20 software on the canon website

    if that doesnt work you may have a defective usb cord
