How to connect to xbox live w/out router or wireless?

ive tried and everytime i run the ethernet cable directly from my modem to the xbox 360, on the test it says wired but the ip address fails. i only have one out line from my modem so i have to unplug from my computer which is mac if that matters, and then plug into the xbox. fails everytime, and then when i plug it back into the computer, i have no internet! does anyone know how to fix this? thanks in advance.

You are definitely going to need a router.  You do not have to go wireless.  Everybody thinks that is the best option when a network device is in a different room than the router.  Well I got proof right here that is not true: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductRev... Read the reviews.  Again, this replaces wireless.  If you can plug in directly to the router, that is even better.

    If you are connecting to a router and it does not connect to the Internet, this probably means you need to do a MAC address clone in your router for your xbox.

  2. You need a router that isn't from your ISP. Your modem might not be able to automatically get an IP address or verify the xbox. For free you can ask your isp what ip address to use for your xbox and set the ip automatically.
