How to conquer/defeat/survive ghost?

Question

In a story I'm writing my characters must survive in a village of ghost! I'm not sure how they will, though. Should they some how 'kill' the ghost and if so how? Or should they use something to fend ofF the ghost, like fire? The characters I know for certain the characters have to mack it until morning! Thanks, all opinions will be appreciated!

Well you character should be a spell castor, That has the ability to cast a spell that can keep spirits at a distances or banish them totally.....................

Make them invisible to the ghosts, as in they are on a different plane than them. Like The Others, with nicole kidman.
