I'm unsure how to contest the ticket.

The brake light is now fixed. I bought the light and changed it, now what?

Show the receipt to the judge? Do i have to go to court? And Do I just show up or do i have to make an apt to do all this?

I'm confused

  1. Why would you like to contest the ticket. You seem to be admitting your light was broken. On the other hand, yes there are techniques for your court appearance that will help you get out of the ticket. Admitting that you replaced the brake light might not help in that regard! See the blog spot for detailed advice.

  2. Your ticket should tell you the date and time of your court appearance. If not, contact your local traffic court. There will be a reference number on the ticke that they can look up for you. And yes, you will have to go to court if you want to contest the ticket.

Since you were guilty, I would advise that you humbly tell the judge that you are sorry, that you promptly had the brake light fixed, and you would appreciate his understanding. Unless there is more to the story than you've presented here, you won't win on any legal grounds.

    Good luck.

  3. Not sure about the other contributor's jurisdiction but in NV, this is a "fix-it ticket". Once your equipment violation is corrected, stop by the local PD office and have an officer sign stating the violation is fixed. Next go to the courthouse and have them record the new status........problem fixed! If you don't fix it then you risk the chance of another citation and if the officer sees you have been cited for the same thing, off to jail you go.
