How to convert a Hi-8 video tape?

I recently received Hi-8 tapes from my cousin who has a Sony Camcorder, I also have Sony Camcorder, but not the same model, when I try to play the tape in my camera, it doesn't play. Can someone please give me advise.

  1. the tape may say Hi8 but it is possible your cousin recorded it in Digital 8 which uses the same tape. a Hi8 recorded tape should play in a regular Video8 deck except have bearding on images with a lot of fine detail. Otherwise should have audio and a recognizable picture.


  2. You'll need either a Hi8 camcorder or a camcorder which supports multiple formats, such as the Sony DCR-TRV460.  To capture the video onyour PC you'll need an analog to digital converter.  You can get decent results with the Kworld DVD Maker or Pinnacle Dazzle, or you could look at the Canopus ADVC range if you want top quality.
