  1. Obviously, you need the video capture software, but I don't think you can speed up the process. The playback speed of video tape is encoded on the recording itself and the machine will only play it at that speed. If you're talking about a commercially recorded VHS recording, it's already running at the fastest speed.

  2. u cannot speed it up, the only way is through a video capture software and the unit, try AVS technologies, goes welll. but u cannot make it faster because u must play the whole tape

  3. Before you pop a vessel, there is a couple of things you need to know about making your DVD.

1.A computer that is capable of importing your video tape.

    2. A captured device; converter bob and capture card.

    3. Enough memory in the computer.

    4. A video editing software to import the video.

    5. A DVD authoring software to create the DVD

Having all those things will result in a professional playing DVD that can be played back in any computer, standalone DVD set etc.

Your other option is to buy a recordable DVD/VCR combo that will allow you to easily make DVDs of you video tapes, by placing a blank DVD in the tray, with the videotape in and just pressing one button, and you have a new DVD.

The down side to this, is that this new DVD you just made can only play back in the Machine that made it. So it would not serve you purpose. your sister wouldn't be able to play the DVD in her DVD player.

This is a long process, because the computer has to digitalized the analog footage and encode it for DVD. With a computer, it will take any where between 2 to 4 hours to make.

  4. Why don't you just use a DVD Recorder?  You DON'T do it any way but to hook up a VHS tape machine to a DVD Recorder and hit "record"... and it's NOT FREE... you have to BUY a DVD Recorder... and they work great... I have 2 of them
