How to convert avi files to dvd files with 5.1 surround sound?

Well, I recently bought a dvd player (packaged with 5 in 1 speakers). I bought this because it has a usb port. If i play DVDs all the 5 speakers work well, but when i play dvd files thru my usb the other 3 speakers don't work (only the front left and front right speakers). I'm so disappointed already. Hope someone can help me how to convert avi files i have downloaded to dvd files with 5.1 surround sound.

To Adeline above, she didn't ask how to burn onto a dvd, she asked about converting avi files to dvd format.

This however is not possible to convert into a dvd file with 5.1 surround, because most movies that are downloaded will be encoded 2.0, only actual dvds will be in the 5.1 surround. So you will have to make do with the front two speaker working, as what you are asking is not possible.
