  1. Nearest land is approx 800 miles due West.

    Keep paddling!

  2. Yes. but it will take time and I am not in the mood.

  3. Ask the question in English as your code is taking sometime to break.

  4. Sable Island Nova Scotia is about 600 Miles Generally North

  5. The coordinates you gave in latitiude and longitude are like a point on a graph.  latitude measures your position north and south from the equator (0 degrees) and the longitude measures your position west of 0 degrees longitude.  But to answer your question you need to offer the position of land you want to reference the distance to the ship.  you may want to find a globe and find the cooridinates you listed for this ship and then you can see for yourself where the ship is and then find the distance to a point of land you are familair with.

    good luck!

  6. I think that you have copied down the position incorrectly. I make 039 10.00' 059 00.00' to be 90miles NNE of Ashgabat which is the capital of Turkmenistan. The nearest water is the Caspian Sea some 280miles due West.

  7. That's in the North Atlantic. Plot it on a chart & measure it.

  8. You need to have a lat and long on shore in order to be able to determine the distance but yes, it can be done.  Go to "Bowditch" Chapter 24 to learn more about "The Sailings" as they apply to navigation.  I believe what you're looking for is the subsection on "Mercator Sailing"... hope you understand spherical trigonometry!
