How to convert videos to mpg?

Question

ok, how do I convert different videos i have downloaded to mpg (from avi or mp4) or how can i make windows media player use those types of files, cause i have a 4 week old computer that i dont want to bog down with any other media players, except for windows media player, and it only runs .mvi and .mpg files

it can play them, it just needs the codecs. the codecs do not slow down your system because they are not executable files. WMP uses them to 'read' files like avi, and after it shuts, they are no longer active on the machine.

but if you want to convert everything you watch, then there are a number of free converters which will do what you are wanting to do

Another option would be to use vlc which comes with its own codecs and will play anything
