Question:

How to convince my parents?

any info on how to convince my mom to let me buy colored contacts is appreciated.

I will pay for them myself.

i am still a teenager and I'm pretty sure she'll say "NO, YOU'RE TOO YOUNG" but a lot of other people my age have contacts. that's not why I want them, though.

I just REALLY, REALLY don't like my eye color and it really lowers my self-esteem. My parents will probably say something like "you have beautiful eyes and you should be proud of them" and I know they're the parents and they make decisions, but help is appreciated!

  1. Are these for your vision or just for your eye color? If they're to help you see, there are so many reasons to get contacts! You should add some info to your question...

If they're just for color, I don't think you should worry about it! I personally never notice anyone's eye color, and you shouldn't worry about what people think of when it comes to something as minor as the color of your eyes! You should love who you are! I know I sound like your mom, but it's true!

    Edit:

Okay, there are many pros of getting contacts! Forget the eye color for now. Contacts are better for sports, for acting, for whatever you do! They make you feel and look better, and as long as you take proper care of them, you'll notice little things get easier! When you're a teen is a cruicial time to have a good self-esteem, and you mom needs to understand that. I suggest, as a fellow teen, that you go deep. Remind your mom of her school years and maybe some rough times. Soon enough, she'll understand how you feel, cause I bet she's been through it, but doesn't remember...

    Good luck!

  2. offer to pay for them AFTER you've done something totally awesome for your parents.  Like maybe, fix a great dinner before they get home from work and clean up after you all sit down and eat.  Or just clean the house top to bottom and do all the laundry for a week or so.  I;m the parent of a pre-teen and that would work for me.

  3. gaawd.. girls really do worry abut the slightest things :/

but anyways, have you had contacts before? they're a bloody pain in the ***... specially when you have to wake up very early in the morning and attempt shoving them in your eyes half asleep only to get to school to fall asleep again and having your contacts move out of their position and blurring your vision worse than if you didn't have them in ><

plus having different colored eyes is just hiding the real you.. don't want to attract a boy to someone fake now do you?

    yay for stylish glasses..

  4. I bought my own contacts when I was a teenager and my mom was a pretty strict person.  I think if you demonstrate a strong desire and responsibility for their care and emphasize the prescription aspect rather than the cosmetic than perhaps the cosmetic could be introduced as a minor point.

  5. I know you really want contacts...

but i think it is partly because "other people in your grade wear contacts..." and "but a lot of people my age have contacts..."

i'm not criticizing, but just know that when you convince your parents of anything, never use the words you used here. never mention other people when you're trying to convince. (i tried that once, and it didn't work. trust me.)

just tell them about how it affects your confidence, and how you would like change. (how you see yourself is very important to your health. tell her that.) and it's not permanent, so if you don't like how they turn out, you can always take it out or change it. tell them that. ask for them to let you try first.

and prove you're responsible enough by listening to them, doing your chores, etc...

    i hope i helped!
