Question:

How to convince my parents to let me get a boston terrier :)?

I really want a new dog after my previous dog had run away and possibly been stolen :(

I had a purebred maltese, but the maintenance was so high.

I told my mom I would take care of him and he could sleep in my toom.

I have offered to crate train him, and potty train him.

After my research on breeds I decided a boston terrier would be best for me. What can I do to make my mom agree on letting me get him?

Also, does anyone own a boston terrier? Your opinion on would be nice?

And if i do get him, (obviously I want a male dog) Do you think eddie is a cute name?

Thanks You!!

  1. So... you had two dogs. One ran away or got stolen (how, what did you do to try to get it back..) and the other was too hard to take care of? What makes anyone think you should have a third dog if the first two weren't cared for properly?

A responsible owner doesn't just "give up" when their dog gets too hard to take care of. They find a way to make it easier - like getting your Maltese shaved every few months so you don't have to groom them as much - and only if they've tried everything and the dog is unhappy or unhealthy do they find the dog a new home.

I would be doubtful of your ability to take care of a dog as well, so i don't blame mom for saying no. FYI crate training and potty training are part of the "taking care of" thing, so there should be no "offering" to do that... or anything, for that matter.

In addition, there would be no "letting me get a dog" if YOU aren't the one paying for the dog. You're essentially asking mom to buy you an expensive animal that she has doubts you'll take care of. Why should she do that when she already has to pay for the house, car(s), insurance, utilities, groceries, and everything else the family needs?

If you truly want to prove that you will take care of a dog, then i would volunteer at a shelter to gain some experience. Or get yourself a job - that way YOU can contribute to the two or more grand that will be spent in the first month. Barring that, give up. It's mom's house so her rules are golden.
