Question:

How to convince my parents to let me get a guinea pig?

My mom said she doesn't do rodents, and my friend offered me hers for free because she doesn't have time for it anymore. My mom said the novelty would wear off like the fish, but thats not true because you can't really cuddle fish. you just watch them swim around....I have to money to buy everything she'll need and the time to spend with her. What should i say to my mom, i don't want her to get mad at me, but i really want a guinea pig. I have researched them and i am very responsible. her only reason for not getting one is because its a rodent and it smells.

  1. why dont you listen to your mom. wait til you grow up and move out then you can get what ever you want. if your mom dont like rodents then let it go.

  2. When i wanted my hamster i said that i wanted my own pet. Because i can show you that i can be much more responsible and do something as being an individual in taking care of a living thing. Make sure your you say what is needed and why to keep your pet safe, and when your on the computer and your mom says What are you doing you say ooh researching on guinea pigs i want to see what i can do to keep one safe and healthy, it totally works if i did it I'm pretty sure it will work on you.

  3. YOU: "Hey Mom what are you doing?"

MOM: "Nothing honey what are you doing?"

YOU: " Nothing.  Actually, I have nothing to do today.  I need something to preoccupy my time."

Fifteen minutes later go back to her

YOU: "Hey Mom what are you doing?"

    MOM:"Nothing"

ten minutes later go back to her

YOU:"Hey Mom what are you doing?"

keep repeating this for about an hour an a half.

Then ask her one more time

YOU:" Hey Mom what are you doing"

MOM:"Honey why do you keep asking me this?"

YOU:" Oh well you see, I have nothing to do today, or tomorrow, or the next day.  I need something to preoccupy my time.  Something I can love and put time to.  Mom, please can I get the guinea pig? Look sad and serious"

    MOM:" Sure honey"

    problem solved  : )

  4. oki so i am so doing the same thing right now i want a guenia piggie so badly.....i used to hav a high of 16 at a time and about 32 all 2gether....and i loved them so much as all you were saying they were hard to take care of dont listen...you can even use just a tubaware bow and put them in tht but since we got a puppy we had to get rid of them..and i am really wanting to get another one tht i can lov on again they r the sweetest ppetss well i mean like small fuzzi ones...

dont listen to those people ive hav them a while!

  5. if you actually did your research, you would realize that its not the pig that smells, is the improper care of the cage.

present her with the facts, guinea pigs arn't liek rats or mice.

  6. why not foster a guinea pig, that way youre mom doesnt feel like its a big commitment and youre helping out an animal, you can show her you know how to care for one that will impress her and maybe she will warm up to the guinea pig, tell her to give it a chance, and if she likes it enough maybe you can keep that one.if youre not into the whole foster thing maybe you can have the guinea pig spend the week at youre house so you can show her you are responsible and that having a guinea pig in the house isn't so bad.

  7. Well for starters, how about trying the following:

#1 Cleaning your room and making sure that it STAYS clean and tidy.

#2 Making sure that your homework is done and handed in on time.

#3 Sweep the floors in the living room and kitchen without your parents asking you to.

#4 Wash and/or dry the dishes.

#5 Do not fight and argue with your sisters & brothers.

#6 Eat what you are given and don't whine or make "yuck" faces when given it.

#7 Don't talk rudly to adults

#8  Always share with other kids.

#9 Go to bed when you are told to.

#10 Research the pet and breed you want to be 100% certain that it is the right one for you.

    # 11 Ask them about getting this new pet in a nice way and don't beg and whine about it.

I’m 100% sure that if you give those a try, they will see that you are serious about wanting to add a this pet to your life and family. :)

  8. ok, in my case, giving them the info doesn't do anything but give them reasons not to get one. that may be different in your parents case though. i would show them that you really want one. do extra stuff around the house. did you tell them why you were going to get it? that may help the cause. I got an area ready for my little guy so they didn't have the excuse " where will we put it". thats about all I can suggest to you, sorry.  :)

  9. You may want to ask your mother to give you a chance to proof you will and you are a responsible person.  You will take care the guinea pig, change the water and clean the cage daily.  If you run out of money to buy food and other supply for your guinea pig, you may found a baby sitter job or do extra house work for her to earn some money........  If she agree all this, you must keep it up your promise !!

    Good luck and have fun..............

  10. Sorry but you really need your mom's ok, because she'll be the one responsible for it ultimately (possible vets, hay, bedding, fresh veggies, pellets-this can get expensive!).  And they live on the average 5-7 years.  Yes they are cute but they can be a lot of WORK, trust me.

I don't want you to one of those people that come on here a few months after getting the pet and saying the animal is sick but your mom refuses to get it to the vet.  That is completely ungair to the guinea pig (and I warn you gp's can have a lot of medical issues).  So please think about that first.

  11. I have had about 9 guinea pigs, and after a while, you do get sick of them. They p**p everywhere and you have to change their cage a lot, and you have to cut their nails. Also, guinea pigs are social animals that generally like to have another guinea pig living with them, which means more work.

On the other hand, they are cute and fuzzy, but you have to be willing to do all the grunt work, because your mom doesn't sound like she'll take over it when you get sick of it.

  12. my aunt just gave me her guinea pig b/c my cousins werent taking care of it. They are actually quite easy to have. Mine does not smell at all. And its nothing like a rat or little rodent. They are so interesting to watch. Mine doesnt like to be picked up. Hes fine once hes sitting in my lap but doesnt like to be lifted in the air and carried around. But no they dont smell. They do however p**p ALOT and are kinda messy with their food. You really have to clean the cage once every 1-2 weeks. I love him though (his name is Carlos) and ill hold him in my lap for hours and i brush him with a lil' doll brush.
