They were on special at the store but I never made them.

I know you have to trim the ends and snap them in half -but then what?

Do I boil them?

For how long?

Suggestions?

  1. steam em until theyre tender, crisp. thats when theyre best. serve em in a little bit of a butter and salt crust.  but dont steam em until they get mushy though. then theyre bad.

  2. yes, above me

  3. Cut some bacon into tiny pieces and fry it until it is just about crispy.  Add some onions and cook them for a little bit.  Put the prepared beans into the bacon and add a tiny bit of water and put the lid on the pan.  Cook them on medium heat.  Stir them every few minutes so they don't burn.  When the beans get to the consistency you like, get a fork and dig in.  They are absolutely delicious this way.

  4. small amount of salted water, put in your beans and then boil gently for about 5 minutes.  Taste for tenderness.  We like ours tender crisp but some folks like them DONE.

  5. I love fresh green beans!  These are my favorite recipes:

    1.  Trim beans and cook in 1/2 cup chicken broth until crisp tender.  To the mixture add:  chopped bacon that's been cooked, and chopped yellow onion cooked with the bacon.  Season with salt and pepper. Heat until well mixed.

    2.  Prepare beans according to step one above.  To the liquid add 1 T lemon juice and 1 T butter.  Toss with kosher salt and pepper.  Add 1 tsp of lemon zest and season to taste.

    3.  Saute sliced mushrooms and onions in butter until tender.  Add garlic, kosher salt and pepper to taste.  Toss with cooked green beans and smokey paprika.

    4.  To cooked green beans add chopped fresh dill and butter

    5.  Saute green beans with olive oil and Italian herbs.  Sprinkle with red pepper flakes and parmesan cheese.

  7. i don't boil mine. i snip the ends and put them in a saute' pan with a little olive oil. i saute' them over medium low heat with salt, pepper, and a little garlic. i like mine crisp so i only cook them about 6 minutes. when they are almost done, i add a little pad of butter or more if you like, and let it melt. that's it. that's my favorite way.

  8. after you cook and drain them mix in a little butter, salt and pepper and just a little lime juice. really good
