  1. I would get an inexpensive microwave.  You can find them very cheap ($40 or less).  I think that it would be a very good investment.  You can cook almost anything in a microwave.

    Cup of noodles

    hot dogs

    soup

    mac n cheese

    frozen dinners

    left overs

    popcorn

    melt cheese for nachos

    etc, etc, etc...

I would spring for the microwave.  I think that it would save you $ in the long run.

    Good luck at school.

  2. You already have the only appliance you need!  Get yourself an inexpensive set of kitchen knives, a can opener, a pair of scissors,a cutting board, some bowls, pots, pans,  etc.  For those items see what Target or a similar store has on sale, or visit http://www.freecycle.com , or check out your local craigslist website to find out who may be giving things away in your area.  One you have all the tools you need go to the local library and look for a great cookbook.  Find one that gets you excited about its recipes.  If you like pictures, find one with great photos.  If you like to hear about the history of a recipe, find one with good stories.   Another free source of recipes is the internet.

My favorite sources for online recipes are http://www.recipezaar.com and http://www.baking911.com .

Let it be fun, and not a source of stress.

  3. There are tons of things you can cook with a stove/oven. Microwaves aren't even that good, they're only used because they are fast. Toasters are only good for bread, bagels, etc.. I love getting those frozen dinner things in the bags. Like Chicken Fried Rice and Jambalaya. Takes like 10 mins to cook and tastes great. I make them all the time, and you only need the stove.

  4. check craigs list-- doesn't the cafeteria/student center have a microwave?

Ask your mom. Microwaves are like $20... Financial aid?

    Sell your computer.

  5. Don't buy a microwave or toaster. Buy a food processor that also works as a juicer!

Once you have a food processor you can make billions of things. They come with cook books to start your ideas flowing!

Get some small casserole dishes and make one large meal which you can divide into three or four portions for freezing. That way one night of cooking will mean several nights of eating. Just heat them up in a slow oven. Have a shower while you wait.

If you cook two or three times per week you will after a month or so have lots of dinners ready for those times when essays are due and you have no time!

    Good luck with the studies!

  6. Most useful appliance for college is a toaster oven or slow-cooker.

At a little higher price is a small microwave & convection oven.

You can often pick up used ones at a garage or rummage sale.

But if you hint around, someone may buy you a new one.

  7. You can buy microwaves at yard sales alot of times for less than $20.00. Or you can put a potatoe in the oven on 350 (stab it with a fork a few times first) for an hour, add a little butter, sour cream good to go. Or buy a whole chicken (cheaper for a whole one) rinse it clean out the inside and shake salt and pepper all over it and bake it uncovered next to your potatoes on 350 for a hour and a half. Point is your gonna have to start cookin! Look for the cheap buys and buy some foil to use. Good luck in school.

  8. you can get a micro wave for a,bout39.95 or less and you dont have to wait so long for your food. ovens are better for larger mesls.
