How to cool down a room?

Question

I have a small room and when i play video games i have my receiver on which starts to produce heat within 10 min. I also have my computer running and that puts out a good amount of heat and i cant turn it off because i get my cheats codes off it. I need to find out a way to cool my room without the Air conditioning. I don't use air conditioning because i am not allowed to turn it on. I do use a box fan but all it does is circulate the hot air. So if someone could give me a good answer you will get 10 points. So dont waste your time saying buy another fan or something like that. Thanks!!

I would look on Craigslist.com and find an inexpensive room air conditioner or swamp cooler.  It's the end of the season and people in my area are trying to dump theirs for about $20-35 dollars at this point for models that are surprisingly newer.  There are some that just sit in the room too and don't need to be window mounted.  

Another option is to place a cool, wet towel in front of your box fan to make your own swamp cooler--like in the old days .  The fan will blow air onto and around the towel (hang it over the back of a chair) and will release the coolness into the air.  Also, make sure that you leave a door opened for the hotter air to rise to.

I have the same problem. what i do is put a dark blanket over me window to keep the heat from the light out and if you have a video game system such as an xbox 360 that offers a cooling fan i would suggest you get one to reduce the heat produced. Dont leave your tv,computer, or game systems running when you are not home or using them (do leave your fan on tho). another cool thing to try is putting ice packs on one side of the fan to cools the air it blows. also use light as little as possible. try leaving the bedrrom door open when you can to create air flow.

cool the room or u down? put a cold wet rag on your neck or get a propeller hat. oops thats another fan. might try shave ur head !

Maybe if its a hot sunny day go play outside and save the video game playing to icky winter days when you can't go outside.

Without using air conditioning, ventillation is the only other option. Have the fan blowing out your window, and have your door cracked slightly. This will draw air in through the door, across the electronics, and out the window. Don,t use the fan to blow air around a room with the windows and the door shut. This will only make it hotter. (air friction) If you have to keep the windows and door closed, you're srewed.
