How to copy a snippet of DVD onto other DVD?

Question

This is for college applications. I need to cut out a snippet of my solo out of a DVD of my team's dance performance. I don't know how to edit it out and how to copy it out....

I'm going to then mail my performance to colleges...

Any free software I can use?

You may take a look at this guide, it will teach you how to copy DVD to another blank DVD disc, it works pretty well for me
